Vanessa Ervin

President / CEO 

   

As President and CEO, Vanessa supervises the day to day operation of Carobell, Inc.  She  ensures compliance with all state and federal standards which governs the operation of Carobell Inc; implements and interprets policies and procedures established by board of directors; communicates with local, state, legislators and federal representatives regarding compliance and standards; evaluates and initiates changes directed toward improvement of programs; develops annual plan and budget for organization including program and fiscal priorities;  administers funds for Carobell in accordance with Board approved budget;  and establishes necessary controls and procedures for fiscal operations.  Vanessa also serves as Grant Writer, investigating additional funding resources for Carobell, Inc.  Vanessa’s past experience encompasses thirty-five years in the field of special education, teaching in field of Special Education both in the New Mexico and Texas School Systems and serving as the Director of Developmental Disabilities for Onslow County Behavior Health, overseeing services county-wide for persons with developmental disabilities.

 

Vanessa’s experiences are supported by a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of New Mexico and Masters in both Business Administration and Rehabilitation Administration from the University of San Francisco.  She continues to fulfill her calling as a licensed ordained minister for the past twenty-six years.

Medical Director

   

Dr. Patel attended Baroda Medical College.  He completed his internship at Shri Sayajir General Hospital and his residency at Mid-Michigan Regional Medical Center, Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester.  He is Board Certified in Family Medicine.

Sue Lambert

Director of Nursing

 

Sue has been Carobell’s Director of Nursing since March 1992.  Her primary focus is to provide health supports to maximize the psycho-social, physical, affective, cognitive and developmental strengths of each person.   This includes implementation of the nursing process:  assessment and nursing diagnosis of the individual’s status, development of a goal-based plan of nursing intervention, implementation of the plan and evaluation of results.  The Nursing Department consists of three Licensed Practical Nurses and a Certified Nursing Assistant.  Each LPN has basic responsibility to monitor the status of individuals in two of the group homes.  Sue is chair of Carobell’s Infection Control Committee.  She also provides OSHA training, basic health care and medication administration training, and other trainings as needed.

 

Sue graduated from College of St. Teresa, Winona, MN with a BS in Nursing in 1977 and became a Registered Nurse and entered the US Navy Nurse Corps that same year.  Sue retired as a CDR from US Naval Reserves in 1997, having served 5 ½ of twenty years on Active Duty. While on active duty, she served in Orthopedics, General Surgery, Post-Partum, Psychiatry and Intensive Care units.    As a civilian, she worked a year in Onslow Memorial Hospital’s ICU, then in Long-Term Care and Home Health settings before coming to Carobell.   Since coming to Carobell, Sue has become a Certified Developmental Disabilities Nurse (CDDN).  She is a charter member of the Devel opmental Disabilities Nurses Association.

Kim Bruemleve

Director of Finance

 

Kim has been a member of Carobell’s administrative team since November 1999.  The Accounting Department is comprised of two members with a combined experience of over 33 years with Carobell.  This continuity has allowed the department to develop processes that are both efficient and accurate.  The accounting department is responsible for all financial transactions of Carobell, preparing payroll in house and billing directly for services in addition to the normal functions of accounts payable.  None of Carobell’s accounting functions are outsourced.

 

Kim’s background includes over 25 years of experience in the accounting field, working in various capacities such as accounts receivable, medical claims, audit, office manager and tax preparer.  She is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

Chris McNeely

 

Director of Operations

    

Chris came to Carobell from the administrative side of Onslow Carteret Behavioral Health Services in Jacksonville.  The Operations Department includes an Administrative Assistant, a Medical Records Manager, and a Maintenance Manager and his staff of two maintenance men.  Together the team is responsible for the maintenance of all facilities, organization and efficient flow of office procedures, recording the minutes of all Carobell business meetings, promotion and maintenance of Carobell’s Volunteer Program, maintenance and archiving of Carobell’s medical records, website development and updating, and Carobell’s in-house graphics.

 

Chris and her husband relocated to Jacksonville from Houston, Texas five years ago.  She has brought along twenty five years of corporate experience, with her last position being Vice President of Administration in a multi-location plastics packaging and distribution center.

Richard Walker

 

Director of Human Resources

   

Richard comes to Carobell with 16 years experience in human resources management.  Over the years he has had the opportunity to work in training, employee relations, compensation, management development, benefits, and team building.

 

As HR director, Richard is responsible for the day to day operations of the Human Resources Department, including such things as: staff recruitment and retention, managing insurance benefit plans, training, etc.  Richard chairs the QA/QI committee, is co-chair of Carobell ’s safety committee and assists with Performance Improvement, HIPAA and Risk Management.  The HR Department monitors the evaluation system and physical updates for 129 employees, maintaining all personnel records and credentialing files.

 

Richard received an MBA with an emphasis in human resources/labor relations from the University of Iowa in 1991.  He is a single father of 2 grown daughters and his 13-year old son.

Mary Butts

 

Director of Programs

  

As Carobell’s Program Director, Mary coordinates and evaluates habilitation services, ensuring that all programmatic needs are met in the Intermediate Care Facility and Community Service Support Programs. She also coordinates the therapeutic services and supervises paraprofessional and professionals.  Prior to joining Carobell, Inc., Mary worked for the American Red Cross as a field office coordinator, emergency disaster relief worker and administrator of the health and safety program.  Her other experiences have been working as a Social Worker in a variety of agencies and in the education system.

 

Mary has a Child Development Associate degree, an undergraduate degree in Social Work and a graduate degree in the Human Service field.
