Carobell celebrated it's 40th year of empowering individuals to reach their fullest potential with a party on June 27, 2009 at the Jacksonville Country Club. Mrs. Kathleen McMillan, Chairwoman of Carobell's Board of Directors welcomed everyone to the ceremonies and Mrs. Vanessa Ervin, Carobell's President and CEO spoke briefly and acknowledged special guests. Onslow County Commissioner Bill Keller read a proclamation declaring July 1, 2009 "Carobell Appreciation Day."

Ms. Tina reminesced about Carobell's early days and offered thoughts on how far Carobell has progressed and how much things have changed since it was founded by her and Virginia Franks in 1969.
Staff celebrating 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of service to Carobell were presented with longevity awards and staff members who attended the College of Direct Support and completed the required courses received their diplomas and earned the credential of DSP-R (Direct Support Professional-Registered) behind their names.
