Mrs. Ervin is the most senior corporate officer of Carobell Inc. serving as President and CEO since 1991. She presides over the organization's day-to-day operations to ensure compliance with all state and federal standards which governs the operations of Carobell Inc. She provides vision to the board of directors and drives change within the organization. As leader she advises the board of directors of future organizational opportunities to maximize service delivery; and assures the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders
Mrs. Ervin has over forty years in the field of Cognitive and Intellectual Disabilities supported by her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of New Mexico and Masters in both Business Administration and Rehabilitation Administration from the University of San Francisco.
She has held key offices on numerous state and national boards currently serving as Past Chair and Member of Onslow Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and Regional Policy Board member for the American Hospital Association (AHA).
Dr. Swetang Patel
Dr. Patel attended Baroda Medical College. He completed his internship at Shri Sayajir General Hospital and his residency at Mid-Michigan Regional Medical Center, Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine.
Director of Programs
As Carobell Director of Programs, Mary ensures that programs operate within the policies/procedures of the organization and state regulations for our Intermediate Care Facility and Day Supports Programs. She coordinates the delivery of services to increase effectiveness and efficiency of programs, conducts annual program evaluations, monitors and handles all administrative aspects of services. She supervises paraprofessional and professional staff by providing direction, input and feedback. Mary has worked for the American Red Cross as a field office coordinator, emergency disaster relief worker and administrator of the health and safety program. Her other work experiences have been working as a Social Worker in a variety of agencies and in the education system.
Mary has a Child Development Associate degree, an Undergraduate degree in Social Work and a Masters degree in the Human Service field. She is currently serving on the NC Providers Council IDD Committee and the Regulatory and Network Council Committee.
Hiram Grady, RN
Director of Nursing
Mr. Hiram Grady has joined the Carobell staff as Interim Director of Nursing. He recently retired in December of 2016 after 30 years of service with the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Caswell Developmental Center, where he served the ICF/IDD population both as a Nurse Supervisor and a Lead Caseload RN.
Hiram is founder, CEO and Director of Nursing for LaHiCo Medical, PLLC, which provides contracted nursing services and medical staff training for corporations and companies working with intellectually and developmentally disabled citizens.
Hiram and his wife, LaRue, a Pharmacist at Caswell Developmental Center, reside in Kinston. Their son and daughter-in-law, also Doctors of Pharmacy, live in Kinston as well.
Hiram is very involved in youth activities including the Boy Scouts of America, and has been recognized at the state and national level for his work with BSA.
Director of Human Resources
Richard has over 20 years of human resource management experience. He has a Bachelor’s degree from Bemidji State University and an MBA with an emphasis in Human Resources and Labor Relations from the University of Iowa. In addition to his work at Carobell, he tutors students at the Adult Study Center at Coastal Carolina Community College, and is a long standing member of the Onslow/Jacksonville Civic Affairs Committee.
Richard is service oriented and believes in openness and sharing information and knowledge with others. “The more knowledge and information we all have, the more powerful we are together.” Richard and his wife, Cyndi, have five children. He has lived in Onslow County for 10 years after moving here from the Midwest in 2006. About Carobell Richard says, “This is one of the most special places anyone can ever be a part of. Whether you live here, come to Carobell or Station Club for the day/vocational programs, or work here, your life will be touched and made better just by being part of it.”
Director of Operations
Chris came to Carobell from the administrative side of Onslow Carteret Behavioral Health Services in Jacksonville. She is responsible for maintaining six ICF homes, Vocational Building, Education Building, and Administration Building, as well as a five acre campus and an ever expanding fleet of vans, and accomplishes this with the expertise of Carobell’s Maintenance Supervisor and Technicians. Additional responsibilities include organization and efficient flow of office procedures, promotion and maintenance of Carobell’s Volunteer Program and proper maintenance and archiving of Carobell’s medical records. On the technical side, she maintains website development and social media opportunities, in-house graphics, and successful operation of Carobell’s IT Department.
Chris and her husband relocated to Jacksonville from Houston, Texas. She has brought along twenty five years of corporate experience, with her last position being Vice President of Administration in a multi-location plastics packaging and distribution center.
